Objectives

During the first 1 1/2 days, the attendees will learn about the integration of high-quality tools within Galaxy with their dependencies (Bioconda, Planemo) using the IUC best practice guidelines. They will also learn how to use Galaxy as a training tool and develop training material for the Galaxy Training Network.

The second half of the workshop will be dedicated to Hackathon sessions where attendees will be able to bring their own projects around tool integration and/or training material and develop them collaboratively, with the support of community experts.

Working environment

A normal Linux/Unix environment with a terminal will be used during the training sessions and hackathon.

 

Requirements

  • A general knowledge of Galaxy
  • Knowledge and comfort with the Unix/Linux command line interface (tool integration)
  • Comfort with a text editor (tool integration and training development)
  • An interest in using Galaxy to teach/train people (training development)

A selection of the candidates will be made afterward to get a total of 20 participants. The selection criteria are aimed at a balance of nationality, gender. We will also base our choice on the maturity of your project (tools and/or training).


Cost

The workshop participation is free of charge. The ELIXIR Galaxy Community and the IFB/ELIXIR-FR will cover the meeting costs (lunch and dinner)

 

Lodging

Bed and breakfast type of accommodation has been pre-booked with the Gulf Stream, the Station Biologique de Roscoff Hotel. You will be accommodated in a single room with shower and toilet.

Travel expenses and lodging need to be covered by each participant individually.

 

Venue / Logistic

Roscoff, an old pirates’ nest, is a small town situated on the northeast coast of Brittany, 16 miles from Morlaix, 37 miles from Brest, 131 miles from Rennes.

Roscoff can be reached

  • by ferry from Plymouth (United Kingdom),
  • by plane from Paris to Brest, then by taxi,
  • by TGV (high speed train) from Paris (Montparnasse train station or Charles-de-Gaulle airport) to Morlaix, then by local train, bus or taxi.

Founded in 1872, the Biological station is presently one of the leading marine laboratories in Europe. It is affiliated with the National Center for Scientific Research (C.N.R.S.) and Sorbonne Université.
